The nDanville Medical Network

nDanville is the City’s 100+ route mile fiber optic network that extends high speed transport service to schools, government buildings, and a growing number of businesses. The City of Danville is not a service provider. Its nDanville network is open to any provider who wishes to offer services. The City takes a share of service provider revenues to fund the network.

nDanville currently connects 21 medical and dental facilities. A residential pilot deployment will soon be launched and provide connections to several health provider residences. A medical network will be created to support open access and secure intranet telecommunications platforms for medical service providers. The network will be available to the Danville Regional eHealth Network and medical records service providers like CareSpark.

Bandwidths of 1 to 1,000 megabits per second could be supported, enabling high resolution graphics and interactive video applications. Broadband functionalities that could be made possible by service providers over the new nDanville Medical Network include:

  • Remote access to computerized health systems in the hospital, home healthcare locations, pharmacies, and long-term facilities
  • High-definition video conferencing and consultation
  • High-definition remote medical imaging
  • Telemonitoring of patients
  • Digital health records automation
  • Back office services for healthcare practitioners
  • Public E-health learning system
  • Secure access to medical reference materials
